1 “Why, O Yahweh, do you stand far off? Why do you hide during times of distress?”

Psalms 10

When we are going through something difficult in our lives, we notice how it feels that God is distant. When things are going fine we don’t need God so then we become distant. Something to always keep in mind is when we are going through something difficult; this may also be a test of faith. “When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.”

Remember the story of Jesus calming the storm when He and His disciples were sailing. They were fine talking amongst themselves while Jesus slept; however, once the storm came, then they came to Him. “‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.” Times of trouble are opportunities for us to seek God. He knows we mostly come to Him when we need Him, so tribulations are a way for Him to talk to us. “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
